Look: Keep it Funky

Hey Dolls!
I wanted to come and post a photo of me from my aunt’s Christmas Eve party. I mentioned I would post pictures to show my outfit but unfortunately, I only have one photo of the actually look. I’m always the camera person so; I rarely get any good solo flicks. I wore a yellow American Apparel bodysuit, which you can’t really see in the picture but that’s what I had under the blazer. The other person in the picture is my little cousin’s fly friend.

Hope you like my outfit!

Pants: Forever21
Bodysuit: American Apparel
Blazer: Online(I forgot which online store I got it from)
Bracelet: Thrift shop

Merry Christmas! It’s a great Christmas so far for me, last night I went to a fab party my aunt had. All my siblings and cousins were there, we don’t get to see each other often, so it was great to spend some time with them. We sipped on cocktails and dined on delicious food. It was definitely a good night! Later today, my sisters and I are going to head over to my older brother’s place to spend time with our nieces and nephew and bring them gifts. Anyway, I have a little treat. I came across some gorgeous photos of Kelis, which I wanted to share. It looks like; Kelis is going back to being fabulous again. She recently did a photo shoot and the photos came out amazing! I love Kelis and I’m glad she is back…Enjoy the pictures!!

Happy Holiday all! I’ve been super busy wrapping up school and stuff but I wanted to make some time today and update the blog… I’m extremely excited because I completed my Bachelor’s degree in marketing. I feel great and accomplished! It has not been easy but with determination and perseverance, I was able to get it done. Once I received my Associates in marketing two and a half years ago, I knew, I could do anything. Now, that I have my weapon, I’m ready to take on the world full force! I have so many things planned, it’s not even funny. After the Holiday season, I will be a mad woman pushing hard to reach my goals. Anyways, I also wanted to put you guys on to a popping color for spring, I hope it not too early. It’s a really gorgeous cheerful orange. It’s a must have color for spring for anyone who can pull it off.

Fashion File: Hot look

Hey guys,

Happy Hump day! I came across this photo of the fabulous J.Lo and I almost DIED! She look amazing, the outfit is simple, yet very chic. I am absolutely in love with the pants, coat, and her leopard clutch. I recently purchased some pants, which look similar to hers but not exactly. Mines are a soft pink, I plan to wear them to a holiday get together at my aunt’s house, and I will post pictures.

Come with me....

Hey,
Today, I had some errands to run plus a meeting with a photographer to discuss an upcoming shoot. I wanted to be somewhat professional but with a little edge. So, I decided to pair a tank with some trousers, blazer, and my brown Mia booties. I promise to take better pictures next time.

Talk that Talk to me....

Hey,

This chick is gorgeous with a sassy personality to match. How can you not love Rihanna? Her music is known all over the world and she is known for setting trends, she sets them and people follow! She’s a rebel and she is not afraid to take risks when it comes to her style. Fashion is not about being serious; it’s about having fun, being creative, and being you. I came across this photo and thought to myself, only she can pull this look off. I would love to style her, that’s a dream of mine. I hope it can come true one day! 

Fashion File: All about ME!

Hey,

I have decided to start doing style diaries; I figure my blog should focus on me and my style. I will however, do an occasional femme noire in fashion, hot finds, and trend must haves. I know it will be difficult because, I don’t have a personal camera person to snap photos of me each time I’m heading out. ….lol. I’m just going to have to figure it out, I guess! So, with that being said, here is my first style diary. I hope you like it! The photos below were taken on a night my two sisters and I went to Tillman’s on 26th in New York City. It was really fun, sipping cocktails and dancing the night away. I always have a ball whenever I go out with my sisters. It was the end of summer 2011 and we were trying to go out with a BANG!
Harem pants: Joyce Leslie (I usually don’t shop there but I kind of fell in love with them)
Tank: Forever21
Shoes: Steven Madden

Fashion File: Belt with dresses

I’ve been a little busy plus my laptop stopped working on me but I’m back at it! Anyway, I’ve been dying to write about my next topic. Ok, what is the deal with big girls wearing belts with tight dresses?? I want answers. Actually, it’s not just the big girls, I see skinny girls doing it too. As everybody knows belts are accessories that can help to give shape to a garment and not to squeeze your fat into place. They can do wonders for a dress or a shirt that has no shape, you’re supposed to wear them with loose fitting clothes to add shape; I’m sick and tired of seeing it done the wrong way! Why would you want to wear a super tight dress with a belt and draw attention to your waistline? Belts are not everybody’s friend and some people need a crash course on how to wear them properly. There’s a girl on Facebook and she wears a belt with just about anything, she is not a small girl and whenever I see her wearing a belt with a super tight outfit, I CRINGE. Honestly, I wonder sometimes if she doesn’t have anyone at home to ask for their opinion before leaving the house.

See below for how to wear belts the proper way and how not to…..xoxo

Hot find File: MIA's Naomi Booties

Hi guys,
I’m back with a new post today! I’m super excited to share with you guys my new purchase…..I recently purchased the Naomi Booties by MIA and I absolutely love them!!!! They are faux leather upper in a dress bootie style with a round apron toe and a D-ring lace-up front with tassel tie accents. When I saw them in the store, I almost DIED! The best part about them, they were not pricy. I got them for $60 at Loehmann’s and they are selling for $90 online, which is the regular price. I definitely SCORED getting them from Loehmann’s. A little tassel and a lot of height made them a MUST have.....

Some photos of them below.....xx

Hot, right?

Moi File: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Celebration

Hello All,

The past two weeks has been pretty crazy for me. My sisters celebrated their birthdays, which are four days apart. It was two weeks full of love, drinking, laughing, and partying. Can you say CHAOS! The highlight for me was going to Washington DC. While in DC, my sisters and I hit up some clubs and went sightseeing. DC is absolutely beautiful but PRICEY! It's definitely not a place I would want to live in. My two sisters and I went there for the Martin Luther King Jr memorial celebration and for my sister Natacha’s birthday because her birthday was that weekend. President Obama was there with his family as the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial was officially unveiled. A dedication ceremony was held at the Washington Mall. Rev. Al Sharpton; the Rev. Joseph Lowery; actresses Cicely Tyson, Diahann Carroll and Aretha Franklin all was there to share the experience. The memorial and the celebration was AMAZING and I’m glad I was there with them to experience it. Thanks to my sister Natacha for coordinating the “little Vacation”, that what she called it!

Check out a couple photos of the monument and my sisters and I....

Here we're again coming from dinner. From left to right is my sister Natacha, Adeline, and me! My skirt and shirt are from H&M and my shoes are Ninewest!

Femme Noire in Fashion File: New Comer Tika Sumpter

Hi All.

It’s been about a week since a posted anything on here. It has been a crazy couple of weeks for me. Anyway, this post is not about me. I’m here to talk about Hollywood new comer Tika Sumpter. Ms. Sumpter came out of nowhere strutting her stuff on every red carpet. I really didn’t know who she was until she appeared on a couple episodes of the hit show The Game on BET and later I found out she was on Gossip Girls as well. I didn’t really follow the show so, I was unaware she was on it. I love her style so, I kind of look out for her on every red carpet to see what she'll wear. Her beauty is effortless and she makes being a fashionista look so damn EASY! She is definitely one to look out for in the Hollywood circuit.

Below are some great looks of hers I love!

This blue print Tracy Reese dress is EVERYTHING!

OMG, this tuxedo number just set me free!

This Herve Leger woven number had every chick in the game envying Ms. Sumpter.

Tres chic! The harem pants, orange leather jacket, and the leopard shoes are such a great combination!

Fashion File: Faux Fur Vest

Hello All,

Faux Fur Vests are a huge trend this fall and they can easily upgrade your look! They are a little impractical and maybe out of style next fall but they are absolutely FABULOUS nonetheless. They are the ultimate layering statement piece. Fur vest are very simple to just throw over legging, with a long sleeve tee and you’re good to go! I’m thinking about getting one but I’m not too sure if I should but we’ll see!!

Get in to IT!

Femme Noire in Fashion File: Tracee Ellis Ross

Hello All,

Tracee Ellis Ross has great style. She has one of those around the way girl vibes and not to mention she is absolutely STUNNING! Her look and style are so effortless. I noticed Tracee when she was part of the cast for a sketch comedy show on MTV, called “The Lyricist Lounge Show”. I thought she was extremely funny, especially in the physical comedy department. I fell in love with her style on the hit show “Girlfriends”. The show’s stylist really understood her body;Every week I would tune in just to see what she was going to wear and of course, for her superb acting. From that point on, I began to follow her style off the small screen. Her character on the show and her pretty much shared similar styles. They both are strong, sophisticated, sexy, and very chic. What I love about Tracee is that, she knows what works for her. Her style is timeless, you rarely see her in trends. The kind of beauty she possesses is CLASSIC! She actually has a new show coming out this month which, I can’t wait for. It’s called Reed between the Lines on BET.

Check below for some of my favorite looks from her....

Trend File: Fall/Fashion Trend

Hello All!

Is Leopard print the new neutral? Before people would think twice before pairing Leopard print with any other color but black. With leopard print being everywhere this fall, its proven it can go with just about anything. The trick to rocking leopard print is to keep it SIMPLE, you can't over do it. Its best to wear one piece at a time.

Are you fierce enough to rock leopard print this fall?!!?

Fashion File: Fall Blues

Hey Everyone,
Our favorite Hollywood celebs sizzle in fall's hottest color, colbalt blues.

Here's Estelle at Kelly Rowland's album release party in a gorgeous chiffon dress. She looks great from the ankle up, not really feeling the shoes. She looks lovely nonetheless.

Sak Pase! Garcelle Beauvais dazzled in a Donna karan number. I love that she was daring enough to pair it with fuchsia Sam Edelman Lorssa heels.

I love Kerry Washington's style! She's always so polished from head to toe. She kept it simple in her Calvin Klein dress for their fall fashion week show in NYC.

Last, Ashanti got her glam on in this Marchesa number with her high and sleek ponytail.

Intro File

Hello World!

My name is Alaine, a stylish and funky girl from the island of Haiti. This is my second attempt at doing a blog. My first attempt kind of failed because I had way too much going in my life to really have the time to blog. My blog is call "Femme Noire", it will focus on fashion, celebrities, and a little of everything else about my life. Fashion for me is all about simplicity, I don't believe you have to pile on a lot of different things or wear name brand clothes to be stylish. It's all about your attitude and the way you carry yourself. I wouldn't say I'm obsessed with celebrities; I'm just obsessed with what they wear. My style icon is Tracee Ellis Ross; She's the perfect combination of sophistication and elegance. I love her style and the way she carries herself. I look at old school fashion from the 70's and 80's. I love Pam Grier's style from the 70's, she was fun and funky! Anyway, join me!! 
